Volleyball Splits With Monks, Falcons at Albertus Magnus Tri-Match

HARTFORD, Conn.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team split a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matches on Saturday, falling to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College 3-1 before downing the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College by the same score.

With today's results, Anna Maria remains even at 9-9 overall and 2-1 in league play.

SAINT JOSEPH'S 3, ANNA MARIA 1

The AMCATS totaled four more kills than the Monks did over the course of the match, but the Monks capitalized on 13 Anna Maria service errors to take the win by scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-17.

Freshman Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) posted a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs for Anna Maria. Senior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in with 11 kills, while Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) finished with 10 digs.

Senior setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) dished out 40 assists, the second-most in an individual match in her four-year career.

Senior Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) paced the defense with a team-high 15 digs, while classmate Brianna LaRegina (Troy, N.Y.) chipped in with 14.

The Monks saw a match-high 19 kills from senior Felicia Wachowiak, while Mariah Hebert dished out 35 assists. Jennelle Thompson tallied 19 digs.

ANNA MARIA 3, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 1

After dropping the second match of the day, Anna Maria responded with a 25-8, 20-25, 25-15, 25-7 win against Albertus Magnus in the finale.

The AMCATS did a lot of damage from the service line in the win. As a team, Anna Maria had 16 aces, highlighted by seven from Parker. Foti had a solid game, registering four aces, a match-leading 12 kills and four digs while classmate Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) was a threat at the net for the guests, recording 10 kills on a .500 attack percentage.

Parker did a good job distributing the ball and picking her spots en route to 38 assists. On the defensive end, Jackson had 17 digs, while Parker added 12 and King had 12 of her own.

Offensively, Amber Cohens led the Falcon attack with eight kills, while both Megan Gritz and Ana Gomez added six kills each. Ramona Onofrio set the table well for Albertus Magnus, picking up 17 assists in the match. At the service line, sophomore Marielis Muriel registered a team-high two aces. On the defensive end, Onofrio tied for the match-high with 17 digs to record a double-double and Gomez added a season-best 15 digs as well. Gomez and Gritz each teamed for a block assist and as a team the Falcons had 54 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS are in action at home twice this week, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game against Salem State on Tuesday. The game is the team's annual Dig Pink charity game.
