King Named to GNAC Volleyball All-Conference Team

WINTHROP, Mass.—Freshman Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College volleyball team has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Third Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

King becomes the first player in program history to earn GNAC All-Conference honors.

The freshman outside hitter led the team in kills and kills per set on the season. King currently has 286 kills and averages 2.53 kills per set, while aiding the defense with 280 digs and 2.48 digs per set. An all-around player for Anna Maria, King also contributed 37 blocks and 28 service aces on the season. King was one of the best hitters in the GNAC as a rookie, ranking 10th in kills per set, and sixth in total kills.

King totaled eight double-doubles on the season and posted a season-best 14 kills on three different occasions, in wins against Newbury, Becker, and Daniel Webster. She also tallied a season-best 21 digs in the team's 3-2 loss to Wentworth.

Joining King on the third team was Kaitlyn Atkinson and Shannon Dudley of Emmanuel, Mariah Hebert and Victoria Huntley of Saint Joseph's (Maine), and Jackie Pisecco and Bethan Trevino of Rivier.

Felicia Wachowiak of Saint Joseph's (Maine) was named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Year, while her teammate Jenelle Thompson was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year. Emily Kalmink of Johnson & Wales earned GNAC Rookie of the Year honors, while Rivier head coach Craig Kolek was named the Coach of the Year.

Anna Maria senior Brianna LaRegina (Troy, N.Y.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.

The AMCATS qualified for their second-straight GNAC postseason this year, securing the No.5 seed with a 7-4 league record. The team fell to Emmanuel in the quarterfinals, but was awarded a bid in the 2015 ECAC Tournament. Anna Maria will take on Endicott on Saturday.
