Parker Reaches 2,000 Assists as Volleyball Outlasts Wentworth, 3-2

PAXTON, Mass.—Senior Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) of the Anna Maria College volleyball team reached her 2,000th career assist as the AMCATS downed the Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-2 in Thursday evening's non-conference action.

With the win, the AMCATS improve to 11-9 on the season, while the loss drops Wentworth to 5-13.

PARKER PERFECTION

Parker needed just four assists in today's game to reach the milestone. She swiftly dished out four assists in the opening minutes of the match to become the first AMCAT in program history to accomplish this feat. She would go on to total 44 assists over the five-set match, tying her single-match career-best, which she recorded last season in a five-set thriller with MCLA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The AMCATS dropped the first set by a two-point margin, 26-24, after holding the lead for most of the set. Unfazed, the team trailed from the opening point of the second set and posted a commanding 25-15 victory on the strength of 10 team kills.

The Leopards followed in the AMCATS suit, leading from the opening point of the third set and never trailing en route to the 25-22 win to take the 2-1 overall lead.

Anna Maria responded with a 25-17 win in the fourth set, which saw four tied scores and two lead changes. The deciding fifth set also saw four ties and two lead changes; after going down 4-2 in the early points, Anna Maria evened it at 5-5 and did not look back from there, as Parker served five-straight points to bring the team to 10-7.  A timely kill by Emily Adriaansen (Pepperell, Mass.) at 13-8 brought Kerri Earle (Bethel, Conn.) to the serving line, and she promptly served back-to-back aces to bring Anna Maria to victory.

SERVING SUCCESS

The AMCATS served a total of 23 aces in the victory led by Demi Carrero's (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) match-high seven. Earle finished with five, while both Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) and Parker dished out four aces each.

AMCAT NUMBERS

Foti paced the offense with a match-high 14 kills. Freshman Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) and senior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) finished with 13 kills each.

Defensively, senior Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 22 digs, followed by King with 21 and Carrero with 14. Goulet finished with five blocks at the net.

WENTWORTH NUMBERS

The Leopards were paced by Sydney Meyers (Washington, D.C.) with 12 kills. Caroline Shea (Abington, Mass.) added eight, followed by Hannah Bailey (Plymouth, Mass.) and Jordan Young (Derry, N.H.) with seven apiece.

Libero Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) tallied 27 digs in the loss, while Amanda Hunton (Monroe, N.Y.) dished out a team-best 19 assists.

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS travel to Boston on Saturday to take on Emmanuel and Lasell in tri-match action held at Emmanuel. The Leopards host Becker and Mass. Maritime on Saturday.
