Women’s Soccer Fights Rivier To Draw

PAXTON, MA : The Anna Maria College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against visiting RIvier University on Wednesday evening at Carposo Field in Paxton, Massachusetts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Maria senior midfielder Gabbriella Cuevas (West Valley City, UT) scored her first goal of the season in the 11th minute, giving the AMCATS a 1-0 lead with an assist to freshman midfielder Olympia Myers (Grimsby, ON).
  • In the fiftieth minute, Rivier freshman forward Kaylee Magoon (Loudon, NH) scored the equalizer just five minutes into the second half, capitalizing on a breakdown of the defense to finish a pass from freshman forward Elizabeth Downing (Weare, NH) and knotting the game at 1-1.
  • The AMCATS attempted four shots in the second overtime in a desperate attempt to break the tie, but came up just short.
  • Anna Maria senior goalkeeper Rachel Matloff (Grafton, MA) finished with three saves for the AMCATS, playing just 55 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, ME) entered the game in relief, coming up with five saves for the remainder of the match, allowing no goals in that time.
  • Rivier freshman goalkeeper Maya Puma (Tyngsborough, MA) tallied nine stops in goal in 110 minutes for the Raiders.
  • Anna Maria junior defender Ashley Dickinson (Bowmanville, ON) led the AMCATS with five shots.
  • Rivier freshman midfielder Olivia Maxwell (Hamden, CT) led the Raiders with four shots.

Anna Maria will be back on the field on Sunday when they travel to Dean College for a 12:00 p.m. match.
