Women's Soccer Finale

Women’s Soccer Wins First GNAC Game Since 2016 In Finale

NORTHFIELD, VT : The Anna Maria College women's soccer team concluded their 2021 season in grand fashion, winning a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest for the first time since 2016 with a 2-1 overtime win at Norwich University on Wednesday evening in Northfield, Vermont.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 27, 2021
  • Score: Anna Maria 2, Norwich 1 (OT)
  • Records: Cadets of Norwich (3-11-0, 2-11-0 GNAC) | AMCATS of Anna Maria (3-13-2, 1-10-2 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Down 1-0 at halftime, the AMCATS tied the game in the 61st minute when Anna Maria senior forward Keannah Dunsmore (Georgia, VT) scored her third goal of the season off a penalty kick, knotting it up at 1-1. Thirty more minutes were insufficient to determine a winner, so the teams went into overtime.
  • 3:22 into the overtime, Anna Maria freshman forward Riley Michaud (Clinton, MA) chose the perfect time to score her first career goal, as freshman midfielder Olympia Myers (Grimsby, ON) found her fellow rookie on a cross and Michaud finished as the AMCAT bench exploded in celebration.
  • Anna Maria senior goalkeeper Rachel Matloff (Grafton, MA) finished with four saves in net, picking up her first win since September 4.
  • Anna Maria's last conference win came on September 17, 2016, a 3-0 win at Mount Ida College.
