Michaud Leads Women's Soccer to Victory in Home Opener

PAXTON, MASS.: Starting with an Olympia Myers shot only 22 seconds into the game the AMCATS announced that they would be in control this afternoon. Sophomore Riley Michaud put an exclamation point on the statement when she scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon during the game's third minute. Overall the AMCATS spent the majority of the game in the offensive end and continued to put pressure on the Mariners' goalie until the clock expired 90 minutes later.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Michaud (Clinton, MA) scored her first goal when the Mariners defense failed to clear the rebound of a Myers (Grimsby, ON) shot from the right corner of the box. After the defenders whiffed on the clear Michaud found the ball on her foot and banged it in from inside the goal area. (2:47)
• The second goal was a reasonable facsimile of the first just without the whiff by the Mariners' defense and the rebound of Myers's shot this time went directly to Michaud who was able to push the ball into the goal before the Mariners' netminder could recover. (18:53)
• Senior midfielder Samantha Rodriguez (Corona, CA) took advantage of a scramble in front of the net to cap the days scoring. Following a long pass into the offensive end by Keeanah Dunsmore (Georgia, VT), Rodriguez was the last one to touch the ball before it found itself in the net.
• Senior goalkeeper Ashlie Rivera (East Haven, CT) had a relatively stress-free day, stopping both of the shots that she faced as the AMCATS kept the pressure on the offensive end for most of the game.
