Women’s Soccer Claims First Win Of Season

- NEW LONDON, CT : 725 days after their last victory, the Anna Maria College women's soccer team got back in the win column with a 2-0 victory at Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon in New London, Connecticut.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Maria junior forward Alexandra Rowland (Leicester, MA) scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute of the game, putting the AMCATS ahead 1-0.
  • In the 86th minute, Anna Maria freshman defender Valentina Villa (Norwalk, CT) broke through and scored her first career goal, putting the AMCATS ahead 2-0 for the final score.
  • Anna Maria senior goalkeeper Rachel Matloff (Grafton, MA) picked up the shutout victory, recording two saves on the day.
  • Mitchell freshman goalkeeper Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) had 16 saves in a valiant effort for the Mariners.
