Monks Hold Off Women’s Hoops, 85-73

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College women's basketball team lost 85-73 to visiting Saint Joseph's College on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Fuller Center in Paxton.

THE GAME WAS DECIDED WHEN:

  • Down by as much as twenty, the AMCATS rallied late to cut it to ten with in the final minutes. But they were unable to close the gap entirely, coming up just short.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Anna Maria freshman forward Marinique Reddin (Tampa, FL) overcame a slow start to lead the AMCATS with 21 points, eight rebounds, five blocks and two assists.
  • SJC senior guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, NH) led all scorers with 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting, going six-of-ten from behind the arc while pulling down six boards.
  • Anna Maria senior guard Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, MA) was on fire in the first half for the AMCATS, finishing with 20 points, four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block while going four-of-seven from beyond the arc.
  • SJC sophomore forward Angelica Hurley (Groverland, MA) posted 16 points with nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals
  • Anna Maria senior guard Julitza Delgado (Southbridge, MA) did the little things for the AMCATS, dishing out six assists with five rebounds, two steals and a block.
  • SJC senior forward Kaleigh Walsh (Windham, NH) added ten points with nine rebounds.
  • The Monks dominated the boards, with a 50-28 advantage.
