Hammond’s 26 Not Enough For Women’s Basketball At USJ

WEST HARTFORD, CT: The Anna Maria College women's basketball team lost 74-43 at the University of Saint Joseph in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the O'Connell Center in West Hartford, Connecticut.

THE GAME WAS DECIDED WHEN:

  • The Blue Jays opened the game with an 13-0 run, only for the AMCATS to answer with an 11-0 rally capped off by a layup from Anna Maria senior guard and team captain Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, MA). The AMCATS were within two in the second quarter when the Blue Jays closed out the half on a 17-0 run and never looked back.

 

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Hammond finished with a career-high 26 points for the AMCATS, shooting 11-of-21 with seven rebounds and two steals. The Anna Maria team captain accounted for 60 percent of the AMCATS' scoring output.
  • Anna Maria freshman forward Marinique Reddin (Tampa, FL) continued her strong play inside, finishing with nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks on the day.
  • USJ sophomore forward Jordan Ouellette (Bristol, CT) led the Blue Jays with 22 points and seven boards.
  • USJ senior guard Cheyenne-Mone Smith (Wethersfield, CT) scored 11 points, dished out eight assists and tallied four steals.
  • The Blue Jays outshot the AMCATS, 43.5 percent to 29.5 percent with a 49-38 edge in rebounding.

Anna Maria goes into their winter break, but they will be back on the court on Saturday, January 8th when they head to Colby-Sawyer College for a 1:00 p.m. game.
