Hammond Guides Women’s Hoops Past Lesley

WORCESTER, MA : The Anna Maria College women's basketball team won their home opener 61-50 over visiting Lesley University on Tuesday evening at the Fuller Center in Paxton.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Anna Maria senior guard and team captain Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, MA) led the AMCATS with 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
• Anna Maria freshman forward Marinique Reddin (Tampa, FL) continued her strong rookie campaign with 14 points, five rebounds, three steals and a block.
• Anna Maria senior guard Mariah Carey (Worcester, MA) disrupted the Lynx from buzzer-to-buzzer, tallying six steals while scoring 11 points with five assists and pulling down four boards.
• Lesley junior guard Sydnie Drezek (Seymour, CT) led all scorers with 19 points, with six rebounds.

TURNING POINT:

• Anna Maria was clinging to a 27-25 lead midway through the third quarter when Hammond took over, using the AMCATS' full-court defense to pick the Lynx apart with a 14-3 run.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back on the court on Friday when they travel to the the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament for a 7:00 p.m. game against the host Colojnels.
