Women's Soccer Falls to Simmons, 4-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback to the Sharks of Simmons College in Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt at AMCAT Field.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 3-12-1 overall and 1-8-1 in GNAC action, while the win boosts the Sharks to 9-8 overall and 8-3 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Sharks used an impressive 40 shots on the day to control play and take the victory. After just one goal in the first half, they had a three-goal second half. Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) scored twice for the Sharks, while Ciara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) finished with a goal and an assist.

Simmons held the AMCATS to just six shots on the day and also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

SCORING

First Half: The Sharks got in the board in the 25th minute as Issy Verrilli's (Naugatuck, Conn.) shot from 20 yards out bounced off a teammate and then an AMCAT defender, finally landing at the feet of Forde, who shot into the net for the team's first score.

Second Half: Simmons added a second tally in the 53rd minute as Victoria Russo (Braintree, Mass.) buried a penalty kick.

Berkman took control from there, tallying back-to-back goals in the 68th and 74th minutes to put the game out of reach for the AMCATS. Forde assisted on Berkman's first tally, while Ainslie Gibbs (Forestdale, R.I.) provided the helper on the second score.

GOALKEEPERS

Simmons' Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) stopped both shots on net to protect her shutout victory, while Anna Maria's Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) tallied 19 saves in defeat.
