Mauricio Scores in Women's Soccer Season Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Led by junior Terry Netusil and senior Sarah Hills, the Coast Guard Academy posted a 6-1 win in women's soccer against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College in the season opener for both teams.

STORYLINE

The AMCATS scored their lone goal of the game on their only shot of the day, as the visitors were outshot 34-1 by the Bears. Coast Guard also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

SCORING

First Half: The AMCATS kept the Bears off of the board for 25 minutes, until Netusil scored her first goal of the day at the 25:14 mark on an unassisted breakaway. Just over two minutes later, Hills netted a goal assisted by Olivia Holt.

Second Half: The Bears saw four-straight goals by Hills, Netusil, Holt, and Donnelly to take a 6-0 lead before Anna Maria scored their lone goal on a free-kick by Rebecca Mauricio (Pawtucket, R.I.) in the 78th minute. The goals marks the second career goal for Mauricio, who also scored once last season.

GOALKEEPERS

Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Boohar made her first career start for the Bears, facing only one shot and allowing one goal. She is 1-0-0 on the season.

Sophomore keeper Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) made 13 saves on 19 shots faced on the day, posting a .684 save percentage. Kneeland is no stranger to double-digits in the saves column, as she averaged 10.83 saves per game as a rookie.

The Bears return to action on September 9th when they host Nichols College in a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m.
