Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 to Nighthawks

BOSTON, Mass. – The Anna Maria College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 non-conference final to the Nighthawks of Newbury College at Winsor Field on Monday night. With the loss the AMCATS drop to 2-4-1 on the season while the Nighthawks improve to 2-4 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Anna Maria hopped on the board quickly when sophomore midfielder Emily Gorrivan (Windham, Maine) was granted a penalty kick following a Nighthawk's foul in front of the net. Although the AMCATS scored first they could not hold onto the lead as Newbury came back firing, outshooting Anna Maria 10 to 6 in the first half. Defensively, both Anna Maria's goaltender Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) and Nighthawk's netminder Elizabeth Fox (Orono, Maine) made game deciding saves to keep the score close. Going into halftime the score was tied at 1-1 leaving both teams anxious to get back on the field. It was not until half way through the second half that the game-winning goal was put away off an impressive header from Nighthawk's Jenni McDonald (Magnolia, Texas). Overall, the Nighthawks outshot Anna Maria 16 to 10 while tallying six corner kicks to the AMCATS three. The game saw a total of 14 fouls with no cards administered.
