Bottis Boots Two as Women's Soccer Ties With Mount Ida, 2-2

PAXTON, Mass.—Sophomore Ashley Bottis (Rutland, Mass.) scored her second goal of the game in the 89th minute to knot the score at 2-2 and force overtime against the Mustangs of Mount Ida College in Wednesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt. Neither team scored in overtime, setting the 2-2 score final after 110 minutes of play.

With today's result, Anna Maria sees its record set at 2-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in GNAC play, while Mount Ida is now 1-1-3 overall and 0-0-2 in GNAC play.

BOPPIN' BOTTIS

Bottis continues to dominate the AMCAT scoreboard, tallying her sixth and seventh goals of the season in tonight's win. Her first goal was scored in the 57th minute on a penalty kick, which tied the score at 1-1 following Mount Ida's first-half goal.

Her game-tying goal in the 89th minute was a breakaway—the feisty forward collected the ball off a Mustang defender 40-yards out and carried it about 25-yards, where she pushed a shot past Mustang defender Kelsey Parkin.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mustangs scored the lone goal of the first half and held control for a majority of the game, holding a 21-9 advantage in shots over the full 110 minutes. Two-and-a-half minutes after Bottis tied it up on the penalty kick, Mount Ida's Alee Bonola found herself in a one-on-one scenario with AMCAT netminder Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine), and pushed a low shot past Kneeland's dive.

Mount Ida looked like they were escaping with the win following their second goal as Anna Maria struggled to put runs together and found themselves in their own defensive end for most the second half, but Bottis's shot tied the game to force overtime.

Neither team scored in the extra 20 minutes, but the Mustangs held a 5-0 advantage in shots.

GOALKEEPERS

Kneeland tallied nine saves in net for the AMCATS, while Parkin tallied four saves for Mount Ida.
