Women's Soccer Falls to Monks, 4-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

With the loss, Anna Maria falls to 2-7-1 overall and 0-3-1 in GNAC play, while the win boosts the Monks to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The scoreless contest was interrupted in the 22nd minute as an AMCAT handball inside the box granted the Monks a penalty kick, which was buried by Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) for the first score. The Monks added a second goal late in the first half to lead 2-0 at halftime and added two more scores in the second half.

Saint Joseph's took control early, as Whitney White's (Salem, N.H.) opening shot bounced off the cross bar in the first minute of the game. The Monks would hold an 18-5 advantage in shots in the first half and a 14-4 advantage in the second half.

AMCAT EFFORT

Anna Maria's best chance to score came early in the game as Ashley Bottis (Rutland, Mass.) found herself on a breakaway. The Monks goalkeeper committed to guarding her, leaving the net wide open, but Bottis' shot slammed off the left goal post. The AMCATS finished with nine shots on the afternoon, three of which were on-goal.

SCORING

First Half: Parent buried her penalty kick at the 21:41 mark for her fourth goal of the season. At the 40:56 mark, Hannah LeBlanc (Andover, Mass.) passed the ball from the left wing to Emily Moreau (Litchfield, Mass.), who dribbled to the top of the six-yard box and tapped the ball over the diving AMCAT goalkeeper.

Second Half: The Monks tallied goals in the 64th and 69th minutes during the second half. LeBlanc netted an unassisted goal for the 3-0 lead after controlling a loose ball and firing a 25-yard shot. The final goal of the game was crossed into the boss from Colleen Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) and stuffed home by Haley DeGraca (Saco, Maine) for her eighth goal of the season.

GOALKEEPERS

Anna Maria's sophomore netminder Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) tallied 15 saves for the second consecutive game. Saint Joseph's starter Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) stopped both shots she faced in 77 minutes of action. Michelle Cuhna (Enfield, Conn.) registered one save in the final 13 minutes of play.
