Women's Soccer Beamed by Lasers, 6-0

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College women's soccer team blanked Anna Maria College 6-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field.

The win keeps the Lasers undefeated in the conference at 5-0-1 and 6-3-2 overall, while the AMCATS drop to 1-4-1 in the GNAC and 3-8-1 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) put away two goals in the winning effort, while senior Sarah Jones (Duxbury, Mass.) found the back of the net for the first time in her 2015 campaign. Junior Devon Day (Hartland, Vt.), sophomore Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Hannah Klein (Bristol, R.I.) additionally teamed up with a goal apiece in the victory.

Meissner got the Lasers on the board early, as she finished a pass from senior Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) just 31 seconds into the game. After the following 15 minutes of possession, Zdanek was off to the races up the right field flank and buried a shot on goal for the 2-0 bump.

Lasell continued its offensive pressure towards the closing minutes of the first half, however sophomore net minder Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) was there to make the saves on Lasell's repeated shots on frame. Kneeland stopped seven shots alone in the final half of play, but the Lasers came out on top at the end of 90 minutes, 6-0.

GOALKEEPERS

Lasell sophomore keeper Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) earned the victory and improves to 5-3-1 overall, while freshman Macie Sicard (Colchester, Vt.) recorded a single save in 58 minutes of relief. Despite the deficit, Kneeland recorded a season-high 18 saves between the pipes for Anna Maria, and shifts to 3-6-1 this season.
