Bottis Leads AMCATS to 2-0 victory over Buccaneers

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College Women's Soccer team topped Massachusetts Maritime Academy 2-0 in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the AMCATS record to 1-1-0, while the Buccaneers fall to 0-2-0.

 

STORYLINE

The AMCATS came out strong Saturday afternoon with a two-goal first half. Sophomore Ashley Bottis (Rutland, Mass.) netted a pair of first half goals to lead Anna Maria to a 2-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime at AMCAT Field. Defense was strong for Anna Maria as they clinched the season's first shutout. 

 

 SCORING

First Half: Bottis gave the host AMCATS (1-1) the only goal they would need with an unassisted tally just 1:58 into the contest, and she provided an insurance marker (also unassisted) with 4:34 remaining in the opening 45 minutes of play to close out the scoring. 

 

GOALTENDERS

Sophomore Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) tallied the shutout for Anna Maria, as she made eight saves, including five in the second half. Senior Katie Levesque made six saves in suffering the setback in goal for the visiting Buccaneers (0-2), as Massachusetts Maritime outshot the AMCATS by a 20-12 margin overall and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks for the contest.

The AMCATS travel to Nashua New Hampshire to take on the Eagles of Daniel Webster College in non-conference play on Wednesday, September 9th at 4:00 p.m.
