AMCATS Fall 3-0 in ECAC First Round

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emerson Women's Volleyball team played host to three teams in the first round of the ECAC Division III Volleyball championships on Wednesday afternoon at Brown & Plofker Gym. The top ranked Lions faced visiting No. 4 Morrisville State Mustangs in the first match of the day and took a 3-0 sweep. The second match of the day consisted of No. 3 Anna Maria against No. 2 Manhattanville, where the Valiants defeated the Amcats in three straight sets. 

With the win, Emerson moves on to the quarterfinal round on Saturday afternoon against Manhattanville at 2:00 p.m. 

No. 3 Anna Maria vs. No. 2 Manhattanville

Manhattanville cruised to a 25-9 victory in the opening frame and banged out a 25-19 win in the second set and closed out the match with a 25-13 win in the final set.

Junior Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y.) racked up 14 kills and junior Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) followed with 12 kills for Manhattanville. Senior Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii) had a match-high 34 assists, while a trio of Valiants had two aces each. Senior Sam Miano (Bronx, N.Y.) led with a team-high 14 digs. Reid and Mackey also led the defense with two blocks each. 

Sophomore Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) led the AMCATS with 12 kills while freshman Tierney Clancy (Meriden, Conn.) had 20 assists and sophomore Caroline Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) had 13 digs. A trio of AMCATS had an ace apiece and freshman Ashley Blair (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had two blocks. 

The AMCATS conclude their season with a 21-12 overall record; the most wins in program history and an overall record breaking season.
