King, Garcia Earn GNAC Weekly Honors

WINTHROP, Mass.—Sophomores Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) and Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Player and Libero of the Week honors, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

King becomes the first player in program history to earn Player of the Week honors twice in a season, while Garcia becomes the first AMCAT libero to earn the league's top weekly honor.

KING'S WEEK

King averaged 5.57 kills and 3.86 digs per set with two double-doubles in a 2-0 week. She tallied 22 kills and 17 digs in a 3-1 win over MCLA to open the week, and added 17 more kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Eastern Nazarene. The AMCATS' sophomore outside hitter recorded a .225 hitting percentage on the week.

King has been the AMCATS' offensive leader all season. Over 17 matches, she has totaled 281 kills and averages a GNAC-leading 4.39 kills per set. She holds a .262 hitting percentage, ranking her seventh in the GNAC in that category. Additionally, she ranks second on the team in total digs (159) and digs per set (2.48), and is third on the team in service aces (28).

GARCIA'S WEEK

Garcia averaged 6.14 digs per set in a 2-0 week for Anna Maria. She tallied a season-best 32 digs in the team's thrilling 3-1 win over MCLA and also added 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Eastern Nazarene.

Garcia has paced the AMCAT defense this year with 238 total digs and an average of 3.72 digs per set. She ranks sixth in the GNAC in total digs and seventh in digs per set.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING

The AMCATS wrapped up September with their best start in program history as they won 11 of their 17 matches. Prior to 2016, the most wins in a month by the program was seven, reached in each of the last two seasons. Anna Maria also went on a record-setting seven-match winning streak midway through the month.

The AMCATS (11-6, 2-1 GNAC) return to action on Tuesday when they host Johnson & Wales, the defending GNAC champions, at 7:00 p.m.
