Wildcats Claw Past AMCAT Volleyball, 3-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

With the win, the defending GNAC champions improve to 18-0 on the season and 5-0 in league play, while Anna Maria falls to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in GNAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Wildcats doubled-up offensively on the AMCATS, totaling 51 kills to Anna Maria's 25. Johnson & Wales also scattered eight blocks throughout the three-set contest, and held a 69-49 advantage in digs over their hosts.

The first set was a close match as the AMCATS never let the Wildcats take more than a four-point lead, but the Wildcats outlasted Anna Maria at the end to take a 25-22 win. The visitors were dominant from there, claiming 25-13 and 25-15 wins in the second and third sets.

AMCAT LEADERS

The AMCATS were led by junior Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) with nine kills. Sophomore Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) was held to single-digit kills for the first time in seven matches as she clocked in with eight.

Freshman setter Tierney Clancy (Meriden, Conn.) finished with four kills and 18 assists, while sophomore Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) led the defense with 19 digs.

JWU LEADERS

Johnson & Wales was led by Emily Kalmink with 17 kills on an impressive .519 hitting percentage. Kate Walker chipped inwith 11 kills, while Maria Coniglio finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs.

JWU setter Brylee Frank dished out 45 assists, while libero Gianna Esposito recorded a match-high 20 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS return to action on Thursday when they host Lesley in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m. Anna Maria then embarks on a five-match road streak before returning home on October 19^th against Suffolk.
