HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pride (1-8) struggled with its attack, hitting at only a .164 clip while the AMCATS (7-5) posted a .227 attack percentage.

Regis started set one off in good form, racing out to a 9-3 lead off a Veasey ace. The AMCATS would get into the set though and, after a pair of King aces, grabbed their first lead. The Pride later regained the advantage at 21-19 off a Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) ace, but Anna Maria closed the set with six straight points to grab the win.

The Pride evened the match with a narrow set-two win despite dropping the first six points. Regis regrouped after a timeout and bolted back into the set and evened the score at 8-8 off a Veasey kill. The teams went back and forth the remainder of the set with Regis finally able to grab the win on a Haley Schulte (Fullerton, Calif.) kill.

Anna Maria handily beat Regis in set four but the Pride looked prime to send the match to a fifth and deciding set. Regis led most of the set with kills by Lathrop and Veasey extending the lead to 17-14. Four straight points capped by a King kill regained the lead for Anna Maria at 18-17 but the Pride responded to go up 22-20. Down the stretch, kills by Veasey and Kayla Nystedt (Onamia, Minn.) staved off a pair of match points before Anna Maria finally made good on its third to take the match.
