Sharks Sink AMCATS in Women's Volleyball

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons volleyball defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS, 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-11) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening. With the win, the Sharks move to 12-10 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC.

Simmons hit .550 in the first set with strong offense by Brittany Hill (Milford, Mass.) and Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.). Sandy Acosta buried two kills and Samantha Parker posted five digs but the Sharks cruised to a 25-10 win to take a 1-0 lead.

Sharks freshman Kyla McCabe-Corrow (Madbury, N.H.) served up three consecutive aces to start the second set and Caroline Boyd (Wilbraham, Mass.) added four kills as the Sharks dominated the court. Chanel Thomas (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) each recorded four digs to lead the Sharks defense.

In the final set, the Sharks took a 7-1 lead as Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) and Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) each served up two aces. Kayla Cummings responded for the AMCATS with a two kills but it was not enough as the Sharks rolled to a 3-0 victory.

Simmons returns to action on Thursday, October 11th when they travel to Bridgewater State for a non-conference matchup at 6:30 p.m. The AMCATS return home to host Emerson College on October 15th at 7:00 p.m.
