Scafidi Named to NEIBA All-New England Team

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) announced the 2012 Division III All-New England Teams today which featured 51 athletes from across the region. Anna Maria senior Jeff Scafidi (Worcester, Mass) has been selected to the NEIBA All-New England First Team.

Scafidi batted a solid .408 in 42 games for the AMCATS this season. In 142 plate appearances the outfielder belted 58 hits including 3 triples and 4 home runs with 32 RBI's. In the field he had 55 put outs, 6 assist and a fielding percentage of .984 to lead AMC to a 24-18 record. The AMCATS made it to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) final four, in their first year in the league and were also ECAC runners-up in the 2012 tournament, dropping a 3-2 decision to Endicott in the finals.

Western Connecticut State University junior Conor Bierfeldt was named the NEIBA Division III Player of the Year. Bierfeldt finished the season with a .430 batting average while leading the Little East Conference with 10 homeruns on the season. He also added 61 hits with 16 doubles and six triples while scoring 48 runs and adding 50 RBI.

Senior pitcher Tyler Erickson from Castleton State College earned the NEIBA Pitcher of the Year award and enters this week's NCAA Regional with an overall record of 10-2. Erickson helped lead Castleton State to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) title this spring with a 2.03 ERA, 75 strikeouts, and only 11 walks allowed. He limited the 342 batters he faced to a .199 average.

In his 16th season as head coach, Wheaton College's Eric Podbelski was named the NEIBA Coach of the Year after leading the Lyons to their 12th New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title this spring. Wheaton makes their third consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance with an overall record of 34-8.
