Wodatch Powers AMCATS to Sweep Over Raiders

(Nashua, NH) – Anna Maria College swept a doubleheader today from host Rivier College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball action today at Daniel Webster College. The visitor took game one by an 8-3 score and cruised to a 12-1 win in game two. The AMCATS pick up their first two conference wins in their first season with the GNAC. The Raiders' record drops to 1-12 overall, 0-2 GNAC while the AMCATS improve to 7-7, 2-0 GNAC.

In game one, the Raiders senior second basemen Kevin Romero (Waterbury, CT) broke out of his season long slump today by belting out two hits and adding a RBI. Also putting up offensive numbers for the Raiders was their captain, junior Aramis Velez (Lowell, MA) who went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI.

The AMCATS jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind their leadoff man junior Kevin Wodatch (Wallingford, CT) who had 3 hits, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Wodatch double to right field to start off the game, he scored the games' first run on a wild pitch. The AMCATS doubled the lead to 2-0 on a Carlos Ortiz RBI single through the left side.

Anna Maria scored two runs in the second and third inning to increase the lead to 6-1. Junior Shawn Secondini singled in his first RBI of the season in the top of the fourth inning and Wodatch rounded out the scoring with a RBI double to right field in the top of the sevnth.

One the bump for the AMCATS was senior Zach Rafferty (Worcester, MA) who tossed 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits while striking out 6. The final score for the first game was 8-3 in favor of the AMCATS.

The second game saw the AMCATS run away with it winning 12-1 behind the strong pitching of their senior Dean Diamantopoulos (Shrewsbury, MA) who tossed a complete game giving up 5 hits and only 1 earned run striking out 3. Wodatch also had 3 more hits and tacked on 3 more RBI.

The Raider's next game comes tomorrow (3/26) on the road against Fisher College at 7:00pm. The AMCATS will play their next game tomorrow also against Lesley College at home at New Balance Field at 3:00pm.
