AMCATS SUFFER 2-1 LOSS TO HAWKS

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College women's soccer team defeated visiting Anna Maria College 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Hawks of Becker improved their record to 6-2 while the AMCATS slip to 2-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

AMCAT goalkeeper, Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) kept the game close with a season high 19 saves in net but the Hawks were able to find two openings to secure the win. Becker opened up scoring early in the first half before the AMCATS tied it up to go into halftime. The Hawks ultimately netted the lone goal of the second half to claim the 2-1 victory. Anna Maria took just seven shots (two on goal) compared to Becker's 33 (21 on goal) and were granted three corner kicks while the Hawks were awarded seven.

SCORING

Just three minutes into the game, Becker sophomore midfielder Helena Ortiz (Memphis, Tenn.) scored her fourth goal of the year from the left side off a put-back from sophomore forward Lindsey Keith (Sutton, Mass.), putting the Hawks ahead 1-0. Anna Maria would find the equalizer, however, as freshman midfielder Rachel Lake (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored on a breakaway to knot it at a goal apiece. That score would hold up as the teams went into halftime tied 1-1. The scored remained the same until Lindsey Keith connected with freshman Alyson Zawisza (Moodus, Conn.) in front of the AMCATS net for the game winner with just 14:48 left in regulation.

GOALKEEPERS 

Becker sophomore goalkeeper Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.) made one save for the Hawks.Anna Maria goalkeeper Kate Kneeland kept the AMCATS in the game with an impressive 19 saves.

The AMCATS face Albertus Magnus in conference action at home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Hawks are back on the pitch on Saturday, September 24th when they host Mitchell College in an NECC match at 12:00 p.m.
