AMCATS Earn 3-0 Shutout Victory over Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College women's soccer team fell to the visiting AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-0. AMCAT forward Ashley Bottis (Rutland, Mass.) tallied her 3rd and 4th goals of the season in a span of just thirteen seconds in the second half.

With the loss, Mount Ida drops to 2-5 (0-2 GNAC) while Anna Maria improves to 2-4 (1-1 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mustangs and AMCATS played a scoreless first half in which the hosts had several opportunities to put themselves ahead but just couldn't manage to find the back of the net, while outshooting Anna Maria 13-4.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half with Mount Ida controlling possession of the ball for the majority of the opening stanza, however both teams headed to the half tied at zero.

With both teams struggling to find the back of the net early on in the second half, the momentum shift seemed to head in favor of Anna Maria before Bottis finished a ball back post over the head of freshman keeper Kyla Bragg (Sanford, Me.) to give the AMCATS the 1-0 lead. Immediately after the ensuing kickoff, the AMCATS were able to regain possession of the ball and Bottis once again was able to find a seam in the Mount Ida back line beating Bragg again for the very quick, 2-0 advantage.

About eleven minutes later, Anna Maria struck yet again when Rebecca Mauricio (Pawtucket, R.I.) stole the ball of a Mount Ida miscue off a throw in, picked her head up and struck a ball on target from just outside the corner of the eighteen-yard box, beating the Mount Ida keeper back post for the 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs changed things up down the stretch pushing numbers forward in hopes of getting back in the game and had several opportunities in the last twenty minutes of play but just could find the back of the net.

The AMCATS outshot the Mustangs, 9-2 in the second half, and held the slight edge in the game, 15-13 while Mount Ida managed nine corner kicks in the fixture.

GOALKEEPERS

Kate Kneeland (Windham, Me.) secured the shutout for Anna Maria while making four saves in the GNAC contest. Bragg and AnnaMarie Seiler (Biddeford, Me.) split time in between the pipes for Mount Ida while combining for two saves.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Mustangs will be off until next Wednesday when they travel around the corner to Wheelock College with kickoff slated for 8:00 PM. Anna Maria has a slightly longer break and will return to action next Thursday when they travel to Becker for a 4:00 PM game time.
