Field Hockey Falls 1-0 to Falcons on Senior Day

PAXTON, Mass.—The AMCATS dropped 1-0 in non-conference action to the Falcons of Fitchburg State University on Tuesday evening. With the loss the AMCATS fall to 7-10 overall this season while Fitchburg improves to 10-4.

Before the start of this evenings game the AMCATS recognized seven seniors playing in their last regular season home game. Seniors, Katherine Albro (Leicester, Mass.), Ashley George (Leicester, Mass.), Lauren Beauregard (Hubbardston, Mass.) Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.), Lauren DiPillo (Canton, Mass.), Emily Standring (Worcester, Mass.) and Kayla Garczynski were recognized alongside the President of Anna Maria College, Mary Lou Retelle and Anna Maria Athletic Director, Serge DeBari.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first half, the Falcons found an opening to tally the only goal of the game and take the 1-0 victory over the AMCATS. The Falcons dominated the offensive play taking 14 shots to the AMCAT'S four (9-2 on goal) and receiving 11 penalty corners to Anna Maria's seven. 

SCORING

The game remained scoreless through the first half of play despite three Falcon opportunities that were called back due to penalties. After 42 minutes of no scoring, Falcon's forward, Molly Richard received a pass from junior Casey Noonan and shot it up to the top right corner past the stick of AMCAT goalkeeper Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.). Richard led Fitchburg in shots with four on the day.

The AMCATS saw their biggest scoring opportunity with a penalty corner in the last five minutes of play. Moran fired a shot from the top of the circle that was redirected just above the right corner of the Falcon's net.

GOALKEEPERS

Tobin had eight saves in net for the AMCATS as she falls to 6-9 on the season. Junior goalkeeper, Jordyn Conway made two saves in her first complete game as she improves to 1-0 on the season.

The AMCATS travel to Mount Ida College on Friday, October 21st for a GNAC matchup starting at 7:00 p.m. Fitchburg hosts Castleton State University on Thursday, October 20th at 6:00 p.m.
