Field Hockey Finish Year with Postseason Loss to Sharks

BOSTON, MA: The Anna Maria College field hockey team opened the postseason when they traveled to Simmons University on Saturday morning for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) quarterfinal at the Daly Field Complex.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, October 29, 2022
  • Score: Anna Maria 0, Simmons 11
  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 7-10 (6-5 GNAC) | Simmons Sharks 15-2 (9-2 GNAC)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS had its most successful season since joining the GNAC in 2014. The six conference victories were the most that the AMCATS have recorded in a GNAC season and were the highest conference win total for the team since they went 6-0 in both 2012 and 2013 to close out their time in the NECC. The AMCATS .545-win percentage was their highest since 2015 and marked only the second time that the team has finished with a record above .500 in the GNAC.
  • The seven wins for the AMCATS also give coach Lauren Chenevert the most wins for a first-year AMCATS coach since Deanne Desrosiers won 11 as a first-year coach in 1992.
  • Senior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey recorded nine saves. The nine saves brought her season total to a robust 167, good for seventh place on the AMCATS single-season save list. With seven wins this year, Tobey took over sole possession of third place on the AMCATS career wins list with 18, three away from Rachel Braier for second place. Her two shutouts this season brought her career total to six and moved her into a tie with Alyssa Boykin for third all-time in that category.
  • Tobey's 158 saves were also good for second in the GNAC this season and her .778 save percentage was the fourth-highest. Her 1040 minutes in goal was second in the GNAC and she was one of only two goalkeepers in the GNAC to play every minute of her team's games in goal, joining Albertus Magnus' Serena Montague.
