Field Hockey Streak to Third Straight Win

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College field hockey team welcomed Dean College on Friday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, September 30, 2022
  • Score: Dean 0, Anna Maria 3
  • Records: Dean Bulldogs 0-9 (0-4 GNAC) | Anna Maria AMCATS 3-6 (2-2 GNAC)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS kept the pressure on the Bulldogs' defense the entire game. The AMCATS outshot the Bulldogs 13-0 in the first period.
  • Junior midfielder Eden Forget (Worcester, MA) opened the scoring for the AMCATS when she scored her second goal of the season as the clock expired in the first half.
  • Forget was again involved in the AMCATS second goal as she recorded the assist on sophomore forward Carly Drew's (Rochester, MA) first collegiate goal 6:43 into the third quarter. The assist was Forget's first of the year.
  • The final score was set up on an unassisted goal by AMCATS graduate student forward Ashlie Garcia with 9:27 left in regulation. It was Garcia's second goal in only her third collegiate game.
  • After six straight games of double-digit saves to open the season, senior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, MA) has had a relaxing time during the three-game winning streak, having only had to face six shots during the streak. Today's shutout victory was her first of the year and the fifth of her college career. This shutout comes a year to the day since her last at Bridgewater State in a 1-0 AMCATS victory. That was the second of back-to-back shutouts last season. The win improved Tobey's record to 3-6 on the year.
  • The win improved the AMCATS to 2-2 in conference play and marked the first time they have reached the .500 mark in conference play since they finished the 2019 season 4-4.
  • The Bulldogs goalkeeper Mackenzie Fillion was the tough luck loser as she made 9 saves but appeared to be under pressure almost the entire game and saw her record fall to 0-7.
