AMCATS Charge to 5-2 Victory Over Rams

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team downed the Rams of Framingham State University 5-2 on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at AMCAT Field. The win lifts the AMCATS to 6-6 overall while the Rams fall to 2-9 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior, Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) led the AMCATS to victory with three goals on the day while teammates Anne Melanson (Grafton, Mass.) and Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) also added goals.
Despite the loss, the Rams outshot the AMCATS 14-11 on the day with ten on goal to Anna Maria's nine. The AMCATS were awarded eight penalty corners to the Ram's six.

SCORING

First Half:
The AMCATS came out firing with an unassisted goal form Moran just 1:10 into play. Just two minutes later Anna Maria came charging back with a second goal from Moran off of a pass from Lapierre. The Rams picked up the pace as they found themselves in the AMCAT defensive end getting a number of shots off on junior goalkeeper, Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.). The AMCAT defense was able to hold them off long enough to tally a third goal. Moran drew Framingham State goalkeeper Hayley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) out of the net and found freshman Anne Melanson open for a shot that she buried to give the AMCATS the 3-0 lead. The Rams never gave up and just before half time freshman midfielder Caitlin Baril (Lakeville, Mass.) scored the team's first goal as she picked up a rebound off of Tobin's pads and finished just over the goal line.
Second Half:
The two teams entered the second half with the score at 2-1. Framingham State came out strong and earned a penalty corner with five minutes off the clock. Freshman Heather Burdett (Phillipston, Mass.) was dished the ball and she fired a shot to the right post where Meaghann Ackermann (Littleton, Mass.) was waiting to tap it in. The score was now tightened to 3-2. That goal would be the last for the Rams while the AMCATS finished on two more opportunities. Moran tallied the fourth goal for the AMCATS off a pass from Lauren Beauregard (Hubbardston, Mass.) from the top of the circle. To finish out the scoring for the day, Lapierre received a pass from Moran and fired a shot from just inside the 16 yard line with just over two minutes remaining.
