Field Hockey Drops 2-1 at JWU

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Wildcats picked up a 2-1 victory over visiting Anna Maria on Saturday and moved into a tie for first place in the GNAC. The win boosts the Wildcats to 4-8 overall and 3-1 in GNAC play while the AMCATS drop to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

BREAKING RECORDS

Senior, Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) broke the Anna Maria program record for goals scored in a season with her tally tonight. The goal brought her to 22 total goals this season, which tops former teammate Kylie Dalbec (AMC '15) who scored 21 in her season as a junior.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Johnson & Wales outshot the AMCATS 17-11 (9-6 on goal) and were awarded 12 penalty corners to Anna Maria's three. The AMCATS were issued two green cards while the Wildcats were given one.

SCORING

Freshman Kaylyn Forest (Amherst, NH) got JWU on the board when she drove home a shot from eight yards out at the 29:13 mark. The rookie was in the right place at the right time in the second half when she redirected Madeline Larson's (Cantonsville, Md.) shot into the goal for her second tally in the 60th minute. Forest has scored a goal in back-to-back games.

Less than five minutes later, the AMCATS responded with their only goal of the night. Kaitlyn Moran tipped a shot from Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) as it neared the goal to cut the JWU lead to 2-1. Unfortunately for Anna Maria that would be its last shot of the night as the JWU defense tightened up to preserve the victory.

GOALKEEPERS

The JWU defense was solid the entire game as goalkeeper Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.) only had to make five saves to pick up her fourth victory. AMC goalie Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.) turned away six shots in the loss.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Johnson & Wales goes on the road for its next game, traveling to Salve Regina on Wednesday for a 7 pm contest. The AMCATS travel to Bridgewater State University for a 7:00 p.m. start on Thursday, October 13.
