Field Hockey Charges Past Raiders, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H.—Senior Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) scored twice to lead the Anna Maria College field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday.

With the win, Anna Maria improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play, while the loss drops Rivier to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in GNAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Moran scored the only goal of the first half to give Anna Maria a 1-0 lead at halftime before the Raiders evened things up at 1-1 12 minutes into the second half. Anna Maria broke open the deadlock with a goal in the 60th minute before Moran tallied an insurance goal in the 64th minute.

Anna Maria held a 23-5 advantage in shots in the game, including a 10-1 advantage in the first half. The AMCATS also saw a 16-4 edge in penalty corners.

SCORING

Moran netted an unassisted goal in at the 21:28 mark to put Anna Maria on the board in the first half.

At 47:51, Rivier's Linsey Roth connected on a pass from Marykate Sweeney to even the score at 1-1.

Twelve minutes later, Anna Maria took the lead for good off a penalty corner, as Nicole Denver (Springfield, Mass.) set up Lauren Beauregard (Hubbardston, Mass.) for the game-winning shot. Moran added an unassisted insurance goal 14 minutes.

The AMCATS host New England College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference contest before traveling to Worcester State on Thursday.
