MEN'S ICE HOCKEY EARNS SECOND SEED IN GNAC COMMISSIONERS CUP

WINTROP, Mass. – Anna Maria College, Albertus Magnus College, Rivier University and SUNY Canton have been selected as the participants in the inaugural 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Ice Hockey Commissioners Cup. The semifinals will take place on Friday, February 18 at 5 pm and 8 pm and the championship game will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 2:30 pm. All the games will take place at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, MA.

The number one seed Albertus Magnus (15-7-1) will take on the number four seed Rivier (5-14-2) in the first semifinal game at 5 pm on Friday. In the second semifinal game on Friday, number two seed Anna Maria (9-10-2) will face off against number three seed SUNY Canton (8-11-2) at 8 pm.

The winner of the semifinal match ups will face off for the first ever GNAC Commissioner's cup on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

Head Coach Kyle Wallack is in his third year leading the Falcons of Albertus Magnus. The Falcons are led by junior Alex Gagnon (11 g, 18 a, 29 pts), sophomore Jonathan Stein (13 g, 13 a 26 points), freshman Ryan Colwell (7 g, 16 a, 23 pts) and junior Charles Risk (4 g, 19 a, 23 pts). Junior goalie Logan Bateman has appeared in 21 games and has 565 saves, a 2.61 goals against average and .911 save percentage. He is 15-5-1.

Anna Maria is coached by fourth year head Coach David McCauley. The AMCATS are led by senior Jack Sitzman (7 g, 8 a, 15 pts), senior Sam Cyr-Ledoux (5 g, 10 a, 15 pts) and senior Gavin Proeh (5 g, 10 a, 15 pts). Senior goalie Julius Huset has played in 15 games. He has 436 saves, a 2.75 GA Avg. and a .915 save percentage and is 6-7-2 for the AMCATS.

Alex Boak is in his sixth-year leading the Roos of Suny Canton. Suny Canton is led by senior Jake Mayette (6 g, 13 a, 19 pts), freshman Flip Jakobsson (4 g, 9 a, 13 pts) and freshman Brady Morrison (4 g, 8 a, 12 pts). Junior goalie Pierce Diamond has appeared in 14 games and has 315 saves, a 3.30 GA Avg and .875 save percentage. Diamond is 6-7-1 for the Roos.

Rivier is coached by first-year head coach Matthew Keating. Freshman Milan Breczko (17 g, 7 a, 24 pts) , freshman Jon Tavella (9 g, 7 a, 16 pts) and freshman Tyler Duderstadt (5, g, 9 a, 14 pts) lead the Raiders. Freshman goalie Luke Newell (4-8-2) has appeared in 14 games and has 429 saves, a 4.94 GA Avg. and an .875 save percentage.

For the first time, the competing teams were selected by Joe Walsh, the commissioner of the GNAC, to host a championship among independent schools competing in men's ice hockey. Anna Maria College will serve as the 2022 tournament host.
