Kangaroos Jump Past Men’s Ice Hockey

AUBURN, MA: The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team lost 4-2 to visiting SUNY Canton on Friday evening at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, Massachusetts.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The AMCATS seized the lead just 2:36 into the game when junior right-wing Michael Padgeon (Sellersville, PA) scored his team-leading third goal of the season, assisted by sophomore center Guillaume Coulombe (Ste-Julie, QC) and senior center and team captain Sam Cyr-Ledoux (Montreal, QC).
• The Kangaroos on Canton tied it up with 3:48 to go in the first period, junior forward Sam Martin            (Canton, NY), assisted by senior forward Jake Mayette (Madrid, NY).
• Early in the second, SUNY Canton would take their first lead of the game, with freshman forward Carson Lanceleve (Stewiacke, NS) finding the back of the net, assisted by freshman defenseman Brady Morrison (Chilliwack, BC) and freshman forward Colton Sipperley (Tampa, FL).
• Despite being beset by penalties throughout the second, the AMCATS persevered. With 5:52 left in the period, Coulombe scored his first goal of the season despite being short-handed, assisted by freshman right wing Colby Wolter (Falun, AB) to tie it up at 2-2.
• With 2:24 left in the second, penalties finally caught up to Anna Maria as SUNY Canton sophomore defenseman Lucas Roy (Ste-Anne-De-Bellevue, QUE) gave the lead back to the Kangaroos with a shot past the goaltender on a power play, assisted by senior defenseman Connor Tuttle (Queensbury, NY).
• With time running down in the third period, the AMCATS pulled the goalie for a man advantage. Mayette scored an empty-netter with 14 seconds left for Canton to deliver the final score.
• SUNY Canton senior goaltender Brandon McCorriston (Welland, ON) stopped 37 of 39 shots on the night.

Anna Maria and SUNY Canton will be right back at it on Saturday when they again meet at Horgan for a 3:40 p.m. game.
