Men’s Ice Hockey Drops Home Opener To Skidmore

AUBURN, MA : The Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team lost 6-2 in their home opener to visiting Skidmore College on Friday evening at the Horgan Ice Rink in Auburn, Massachusetts.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Skidmore junior freshman Zach Lindewirth (Gillette, NJ) got the Thoroughbreds on the board first just 5:13 into the game, assisted by fellow rookie Kaeden Patrick (Vancouver, BC).
  • Anna Maria freshman right wing Matthew Byrne (Penticton, BC) tied it at 1-1 49 seconds into the second period on a powerplay goal, the second score of his career, assisted by freshman right wing Wolter Colby (Falun, AB) and junior right wing Michael Padgeon (Sellersville, PA).
  • Skidmore sophomore forward Everett Wardle (Hewlett, NY) gave the Thoroughbreds the lead back with 14:44 to go in the second on a powerplay, assisted by Patrick and senior defenseman Reid Russell (Napanee, ON). The visitors would not relinquish the lead again.
  • With 9:07 to go in the second, Skidmore freshman defenseman Danny Magnuson (Sunfish Lake, MN) made it 3-1, assisted by sophomore defenseman Troy Daniels (Suffern, NY).
  • The third period saw an explosion of scoring, beginning with Patrick scoring off a powerplay for the Thoroughbreds 3:29 into the period, assisted by freshman defenseman Will Dow-Kenny (Abbotsford, BC).
  • Four minutes later it would be Patrick again at even-strength, this time with an assist to Wardle.
  • The AMCATS would capitalize on Skidmore penalties to score another goal, this coming from Padgeon on a put-back shot with senior left wing Jack Sitzman (Redondo Beach, CA) collecting the assist.
  • With 7:15 to go, Skidmore freshman forward Zach Frisk (Long Valley, NJ) scored the final goal of the game, assisted by sophomore forward Thomas Finck (St. James, NY) and sophomore defenseman Devon Mussio (Vancouver, BC).

 

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back on the ice on Saturday when they travel to Plymouth State for a 5:40 p.m. game.
