Lady AMCATS fall to Lions, on Play 4 Kay Night

PAXTON, Mass.  Sophomore guard Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, MA) scored a team-high 17 points and teammate Taylor Walker (Winchendon, MA) kicked in 11 points but it wasn't enough for the AMCATS as they were downed by visiting Emerson College 77-53 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up tonight at the Fuller Activities Center.

It was Play 4 Kay night for the Lady AMCATS, many players donned pink laces and wrist band in a show of support for cancer awareness. The Lions improve to 13-11 (7-4 GNAC) on the year, while the AMCATS fall to 4-19 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

Joining Pryor and Walker in double-figures was freshman Lindsay Bond (Webster, MA) who chipped in with 10 points off the bench. Walker finished the night with a double-double pulling down 13 rebounds to go along with her points. Senior Brooke Denver (New Britain, CT) added 8 points and five boards.

Sophomore Kristin Brice paced the offensive attack for the Lions notching 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Shannon Norton scored 12 points and had two steals.

The teams matched each other basket-for-basket to open the game, a jumper by Walker in the paint game AMC a 10-9 lead just five minutes in. Emerson responded with a 9-3 streak to grab an 18-13 advantage. AMC answered with five straight points from Pryor to tie the game 18-18 with 8:54 on the clock. However, Emerson finished the first half scoring seven unanswered points to take a 34-23 lead into intermission.

Emerson held a slight advantage in shooting percentage in the first half 44.8% to AMC's 38.5% and, while each team had 17 rebounds.

In the second half Anna Maria was able to cut into the Lions lead, a three pointer by Pryor sandwiched around four free throws by Denver had cut the margin to seven at 37-30 just three minutes into the second stanza. Unfortunately the AMCATS couldn't get any close and Emerson pulled away for the 77-53 win.

The AMCAT travel to Lasell College on Thursday night for a GNAC match-up starting at 5:30pm
