Lady AMCATS Drop Road Game at Trinity

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams held the visiting Anna Maria College AMCATS to four first-half points en route to a 42-28 victory in women's basketball action this evening in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity improves to 9-5 with its second win in a row, while the AMCATS drop to 3-8 with their fourth straight setback.

Trinity never trailed and held the AMCATS without a point from the 16:25 mark of the first half until just 53 seconds remained before the break.  The Bantams forced 14 first-half turnovers and held the AMCATS to 2-for-21 field goal shooting, leading, 18-4, after the opening 20 minutes.  Anna Maria also missed seven three-point attempts and two free throws, but held a 22-18 edge on the boards thanks to nine grabs by junior forward Taylor Walker (Winchendon, Mass.) before intermission. Trinity, which held a comfortable lead throughout the second half, answered with a 23-11 rebounding advantage in the second half, as sophomore forward Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) totaled a team-high nine boards in the game.

Junior Taylor Murtaugh (New York, N.Y. ) led the Bantams' balanced offensive effort with eight points, while classmate Moriah Sweeney (Ramsey, N.J.) added six points, four rebounds, and five steals, and junior Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass.) notched five rebound, and four assists.  Senior guard Alison McCarthy (Lynn, Mass.) had eight points and seven rebounds, while Walker finished with six points and a game-high 12 boards.

Anna Maria returns home on Saturday afternoon to host Pine Manor College at 1:00pm.
