FALCONS FLY PAST LADY AMCATS, 64-46

Paxton, Mass. – Junior forward Kayla Cummings (Auburn, ME) scored a team-high 14 points for the Anna Maria College women's basketball team in a 64-46 loss to visiting Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at The Fuller Activities Center on Monday afternoon. The AMCATS fall to 4-13 (0-4 GNAC), while the Falcons improve to 13-3 and 3-2 in league play.

Cummings also added 3 assists to go with 8 rebounds, while senior guard Alison McCarthy (Lynn, MA) dropped in 13 points, pulled down a game-high 9 rebounds and dished out five assists. Junior Taylor Walker (Winchendon, MA) contributed with six point and six assists in the loss.

For the Falcons, junior guard Lianne Carrero (Hamden, CT) led all players with 18 points while teammates Annie Sutila (Bridgeport, CT) and Kendrea Walker (New Haven, CT) posted 16 and 13 points, respectively. Walker also had a game-high nine rebounds.

The Falcons scored the first eight points of the afternoon before a layup by Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, MA) in the paint put the AMCATS on the board.  Albertus took a 21-10 lead following a 3-pointer from Carrero at the 6:19 mark of the first half, but Anna Maria stormed back with a 15-3 run to take a 25-24 advantage.  Sophomore Pryor had five points in the run along with McCarthy and Cummings, who each tossed in 4 points. Senior Brooke Denver (New Britain, CT) had the go-ahead-basket with a layup in the paint at the 2:19 mark. Carrero hit the last basket of the half giving the Falcons a 26-25 lead heading into intermission. Both teams shot an identical 31.3% on 10-of-32 shooting from the field, the Falcons held the 6-3 edge in baskets from beyond the arc.

The Falcons opened the second stanza with a 13-3 run, led by a pair of jumper from Carrero and a three pointer from sophomore Annie Sutila (Bridgeport, CT) to increase the lead to 39-28 with 15:16 to play in the contest. Cummings and sophomore Kaitlyn Patno (Lunenburg, MA) gave Anna Maria some life with four consecutive free-throws to make it 39-32 with 14:12 remaining, but a 20-11 stretch, fueled by seven points from Kendra Walter, gave the Falcons a 59-43 cushion at the 2:25 mark of the second half as they cruise to the 64-46 victory.

Anna Maria shot 25.4% from the field on the day while Albertus dropped 35.5% of their shots. The Falcons held a 51-45 rebounding advantage in the contest.

Anna Maria will be in action again on Wednesday night when it hosts GNAC foe Suffolk University at 7:00 p.m., while Albertus host Lasell College on the same night at 7:00 p.m. in New Haven, CT.
