Lady AMCATS Tame Wildcats, 75-36

PAXTON, Mass. – The Anna Maria College women's basketball team led from wire-to-wire, defeating Pine Manor College by a score of 75-36 in non-conference action at The Fuller Activities Center on Wednesday night. The victory earns the AMCATS' a 3-5 record, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 0-8 on the season.

The AMCATS had three players in double figures in limited minutes of play. Guard Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) notched a game-high 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting, adding 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in just 15 minutes of play while teammate Kayla Cummings (Auburn, Maine) compiled 12 points, knocking down 6-of-10 from the field, grabbing 4 rebounds, 3 steals and dishing out 3 assists. Starter Chelsea Blair (Holland, Mass.) contributed 10 points and 5 boards in 14 minutes in the win. 

Reserves Alyssa Haberman (Boca Raton, Fla) (8 points/4 rebounds), Katie Glenn (Holyoke, Mass) (5 points/4 rebounds) and Nicole Primavera (Southbridge, Mass.) (5 points/4 rebounds) also played well in the win for Anna Maria. 

Junior Randi Davis (Wilmington, Mass) had a game-high 9 rebounds for the Wildcats, while adding 8 points. Senior Sarah McCaffrey (East Taunton, Mass.) led Wheelock with 9 points.

The AMCATS built a 33-point lead by the end of the first half as Anna Maria capped the period with a 19-9 run over the last eight minutes, including eight points from Cummings and a trey from junior Liz Sama (Windsor, Conn.) off the bench. Anna Maria connected on 54.8% from the field and 46.2% from beyond the arc during the period.

The teams traded baskets for most of the second half with the AMCATS winning the stanza 23-17 to cruise to the 75-36 victory. The AMCATS finished the game shooting 49.2% to the Wildcats 25.0% while out-rebounding Wheelock 46-31.

Anna Maria return to the court tomorrow when the travel to Nichols college to battle the Bison in a non-conference match-up beginning at 7:00 pm.
