Cadets Upend AMCATS 62-41

Paxton, Mass. – Sophomore Guard Kaitlyn Patno (Lunenburg, MA) scored a team-high 12 points for the Anna Maria College women's basketball team in a 62-41 loss to visiting Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at The Fuller Activities Center on Saturday afternoon. The AMCATS fall to 4-16 (0-7 GNAC), while the Cadets improve to 9-14 and 3-7 in league play.

AMCAT sophomore guard Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, MA) contributed with 11 points to go with 8 rebounds, while junior forward Taylor Walker (Winchendon, MA) added eight points and eleven rebounds in the loss.

For the Cadets, sophomore guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, MA) led all players with 22 points.  Playing in her second season, and in her 49th career game, Curry surpassed the 1,000 point mark with six minutes remaining in the second half.   Teammates Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, MA) and Kristen Brown (Williamstown, VT) posted 10 and 8 points, respectively. Lotti also recorded a team high six rebounds

The Cadets scored the first ten points of the afternoon before senior Brooke Denver (New Britain, CT) converted a pair of free throws to put the AMCATs on the board.  Taylor Walker scored the next four points in the contest, cutting the Cadet lead to 10-6.  The AMCATs continued to battle throughout the half, but the Cadets took a 26-17 lead into the locker room. 

Aliah Curry kicked things off for the Cadets in the second half, as she hit a three pointer in the first minute, giving the team a 12 point lead.  The Cadets were able to keep a double digit lead up until 12 minutes remained in the contest, with the score 39-29.  From there, the AMCATs went on a 9-2 run, highlighted by back to back Kaitlyn Panto three pointers.  With ten minutes remaining, the Cadets held on to a 41-38 lead. 

This was the closest the AMCATs would get, as the Cadets responded with an explosive 15-0 run, giving the team a 56-38 cushion with four minutes remaining in the game.  Aliah Curry accounted for nine of the fifteen points during the run, including the 1,000th of her career.  The Cadets were able to close the game out, and cruise to a 62-41 win. 

Anna Maria shot 25.0% from the field on the day while Norwich dropped 41.8% of their shots. The AMCATs held a 41-34 rebounding advantage in the contest.

Anna Maria will be in action again on Tuesday night as they travel to square off against GNAC foe St. Joseph College at 7:00 p.m.
