AMCATS Drop GNAC Opener to Rivier

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College women's basketball team dropped a 90-63 Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up to visiting Rivier University on Tuesday night at The Fuller Activities Center. The AMCATS dip to 4-10 (0-1 GNAC), while the Raiders improve to 9-5 (3-0 GNAC) on the season.

Anna Maria had three players in double figures. Sophomore Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, MA) and junior Kayla Cummings (Auburn, ME) each contributed a team-high 15 points and guard Liz Sama (Windsor, CT) added 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Cummings had a game-high 9 rebounds.

Sophomore Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) paced the Rivier offense with 27 points on 10-f0r-13 shooting from the floor and junior AJ Guidi joined Purcell in double figures with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Raiders held a 47-26 advantage at the half, shooting 58.6% from the field and 42.9% from behind the arc, while the AMCATS were held to 29.7 % from the field and could only connect on two-of-eleven jumpers from 3-point range.

Anna Maria opened up the second half with a trey from Katie Pryor and a Taylor Walker layup to get the deficit to under 20 points but the Raiders proved to strong and pulled away to the 90-63 win.

The AMCATS travel to Emmanuel College for a GNAC match-up, tip-off is slated for 7:00pm.
