Lady AMCATS Tame Tigers, 62-56

PAXTON, Mass. – The Anna Maria College women's basketball team led from wire-to-wire, defeating SUNY Cobleskill by a score of 62-56 in non-conference action at The Fuller Activities Center on Tuesday night. The AMCATS', sporting a two game winning streak, now hold a 2-4 record, while the loss drops the Tigers to 1-4 on the season.

Senior's Alison McCarthy (Lynn, Mass.) and Chelsea Blair (Holland, Mass.), led the charge for the AMCATS, combining for 25 points and 14 rebounds.  McCarthy notched her first double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and adding 10 rebounds. Blair had a team-high 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and also grabbed 4 rebounds and tallied one block. Sophomore Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) compiled 11 points, 6 rebounds and three assists and junior Kayla Cummings finished with 11 rebounds, 5 points and two steals in the win.
Senior Heidi Anderson did her best to keep the Tigers in the game, scoring a game-high 18 points and pulling down 7 rebounds. Sophomore Kady Porterfield posted a double-double for the Tigers with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The AMCATS built a 9-point lead by the end of the first half as Pryor capped the period with a three-pointer with less than 20 second remaining. Anna Maria connected on 33.3% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc during the period and held decisive advantages in points off of turnovers (15-4), while also out-rebounding the Tigers 28-21.

The second half started no better for the visitors as the AMCATS advantage swelled to 13 points after a jumper by junior Taylor Walker (Winchendon, Mass.) and a pair of Brooke Denver (New Britain, Conn.) free throws with 10:13 remaining in regulation.
The Fighting Tigers started to claw their way back and began their final push trailing by nine at 56-to-47 with 2:52 remaining. Cobleskill went on a seven point run to cut the lead to 56-to-54 with 1:27 remaining in regulation when senior guard Alexis Hauser found Carolina Concepcion for the lay-up.

However, the AMCATS maintained their composure as Blair hit a jumper from under the basket and Alison McCarthy connected on four free throws pacing AMC to a 6-2 run to finish the game and seal the victory.

Anna Maria returns to action on Wednesday when they host the Rams of Framingham State University in a 7pm tilt at the Fuller Center.
