Quick Start Powers Wildcats over Lady AMCATS

 Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team posted a 73-48 victory against Anna Maria in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Thursday evening.

Johnson & Wales had four players in double figures, including sophomore Natalie DiCocco (Media, Pa.) with 13 points and seven rebounds while senior Marina Milian (Chester, N.Y.) and freshman Savannah Kresge (Ellington, Conn.) each tallied 12 points in the victory.  Junior Justine Hughes (New York, N.Y.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points for the Wildcats. 

Junior Taylor Walker (Winchendon, Mass.) paced Anna Maria with 14 points and seven rebounds.  Junior Liz Sama (Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Katie Pryor (Whitinsville, Mass.) each notched 11 points in the setback for the AMCATS.

Johnson & Wales controlled the action early and took their first double-digit lead on a jumper by Kresge with 9:10 left in the first half.  The Wildcats took the 42-27 lead heading into the locker room after connecting on 48.5% (16-33) of their shots from the field.

The Wildcats built on their lead early in the second half and took their largest lead of the game when a jumper by Hughes gave JWU the 60-35 lead with 6:40 on the clock.  The Wildcats then cruised to the 73-48 victory.  JWU held a 48-35 advantage in rebounds and forced Anna Maria into 24 turnovers.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 10-12 for the year and 5-4 in the GNAC while Anna Maria falls to 4-19 overall and 0-9 in league play.
