Field Hockey Travels to Salve Regina Wednesday for ECAC First Round

DANBURY, Conn.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team has accepted a bid to the 2014 ECAC Tournament and will travel to take on Salve Regina on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the tournament first round. The game will be played at Gaudet Middle School, the home field of Salve Regina.

It marks the third-straight tournament appearance for the AMCATS, who have been to an NCAA tournament and an ECAC tournament over the past two seasons.    

The winner of Wednesday's first round game will advance to the semifinals on Saturday and will take on top-seeded Plymouth State.

Salve Regina enters the ECAC tournament with a 13-7 overall record a 6-6 record in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. They advanced to the CCC Semifinals, where they suffered a 4-1 loss to the eventual-champions, the University of New England.

Salve's Abigail Tepper, a junior, paces the team with 19 goals and eight assists for 46 points, while classmate Marissa Gagnon has chipped in with 14 goals and eight assists. Tepper, along with senior Murphy McCann and junior Julia Grover, were all named to the CCC All-Conference team.  

The AMCATS pulled off a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) semifinal upset against No. 1 St. Joseph's to advance to the league's championship game, where they fell to No. 2 Simmons, 3-1. Anna Maria is led by junior Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) with 21 goals and six assists for 48 points.

The two teams have not met since 2010, when the AMCATS played in the CCC. In the last meeting, Salve Regina topped the AMCATS, 3-1. Anna Maria's last win against Salve Regina was a 3-1 result on October 28th, 2005.

Semifinals – Saturday, November 15 at Plymouth State

No. 5 Anna Maria College/ No. 4 Salve Regina University winner vs. No.1 Plymouth State, 11:00 a.m.

No. 2 Gordon College vs. No. 3 Johnson & Wales University, 2:00 p.m.

Championship – Sunday, November 16 at Plymouth State

Two Semifinal Winners, 12:00 p.m.
