Lynx Battle to 3-2 Victory Over AMCATS

THE BASICS:

-Score: Lesley University 3, Anna Maria College 2

-Records: Anna Maria College (3-6), Lesley University (3-3)

-Location: Paxton, Mass. (Fuller Activities Center)

- The Lead: The Anna Maria College volleyball team fell to the visiting Lynx of Lesley University in a five set battle by a final score of 3-2 on Thursday night. Senior, Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) led all players with 26 total kills on the night. Foti is just five kills away from notching her 1.000th career kill.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Lynx took set one by a final score of 25-21 to set the tone for a close battle all night.

-Lesley took their largest lead of the game, 22-14, following a kill by Sarah Hollis and an error made by the AMCATS

-The AMCATS went on a pair of three-point rallies that included a service ace from junior, Victoria Falco (Marlborough, Mass.) to bring them back within three points (24-21). That would be as close as the AMCATS would come as Anni Abbruzzese notched the game point and the victory for the Lynx with the final kill of the set.

-Anna Maria came out firing in set two of the night with a kill from Foti that was followed by a seven-point rally. Foti tallied four service aces and a kill in the rally to put the AMCATS ahead 8-1 early in the set.

-The Lynx tightened the score to 19-15 but Anna Maria stopped their scoring there and went on to tally six unanswered points to take the 25-15 victory in set two of the night.

-Lesley bounced right back to take set three by a final score of 25-21.

-The AMCATS came close to taking the lead with five points scored back to back late in the set (21-19) but two kills from Abbruzzese and an ace from Cassidy Wygonik gave the Lynx the ultimate 25-21 victory and the 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.

-The AMCATS took a substantial 25-13 victory to force a fifth set.

-Set five of the night was the closest battle of them all as the AMCATS and Lynx were tied at 16 a piece following an explosive kill from sophomore Hannah Mitchell (Pittsfield, Mass.).

-Abbruzzese put Lesley back on top with a kill (17-16) and an error by the AMCATS ultimately decided the fate of the night giving the Lynx the 18-16 advantage and the 3-2 final victory.
