WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: Anna Maria drops GNAC match to Mount Ida

THE BASICS:

- Score: Mount Ida College 3, Anna Maria College 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-17)

- Records: Anna Maria (4-16, 1-7 GNAC), Mount Ida (17-8, 4-3 GNAC)

- Location: Paxton, Mass. (Fuller Activities Center)

- The Lead: Junior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) posted a match-high 10 kills Saturday afternoon to lead Mount Ida College to a 3-0 victory over Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at the Fuller Activities Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The first set started out evenly with the visitors leading just 6-4, but Mount Ida erupted for a long run of point to open up a big lead. The Mustangs went on to take the first set, 25-13.

-Mount Ida took an early lead in the second set, but the AMCATS held strong and came back to tie the set at 10-10. The Mustangs started to pull away, but Anna Maria wouldn't quit and was within five points, 23-18, before Mount Ida put the set away, 25-18.

-Anna Maria came out strong in the third set and took a 4-1 lead, but Mount Ida rallied to tie the score, and then pulled away to a 10-5 lead. The AMCATS stayed fairly even with the Mustangs the rest of the season but Mount Ida went on to take the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.

Stat Leaders

-Senior Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) led the AMCATS with nine kills. Classmate Kerri Earle (Bethel, Conn.) chipped in with 16 assists and a team-high six service aces.

-The Mustangs had a balanced attack as senior Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) and freshman Rachael Colombo (Wallkill, N.Y.) supported Walton with six kills apiece.

-Sophomore Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) led the Mustangs with 16 assists and nine digs.

-Mount Ida flipped the outcome from last year, when Anna Maria defeated the Mustangs by the same score. 

UP NEXT:

-Anna Maria faces Framingham State University on Monday, Oct. 16, at 7:15 p.m. before returning home for its Senior Night match on Thursday, Oct. 19, vs. Rivier College (7:00 p.m.

-Mount Ida plays again on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in a GNAC match at Lasell College (7:00 p.m.)
