Huskies Race to 3-0 Win against Volleyball

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 non-conference decision to the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine on Thursday evening at the Fuller Activities Center.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 13-14 overall, while the win boosts the Huskies to 16-13.

Scores were 25-19, 25-19, and 25-19.

The Huskies were paced by freshman Jessica Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) with a match-high 24 kills and 12 digs. Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) recorded a match-high 15 digs, while Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) dished out 32 assists.

The AMCATS were paced by freshman Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) with seven kills and an impressive eight blocks.  Junior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) added six kills. Junior setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) tallied 18 kills and 11 digs.

The Huskies posted a .243 hitting percentage on the evening, as they recorded 44 kills and just 16 errors in 115 attempts. The AMCATS recorded a .061 hitting percentage, totaling 21 kills and 15 errors in 98 attempts.

The AMCATS forced six lead changes and tied the score 13 times over the first two sets, but the Huskies prevailed in both. The third set saw no lead changes, as the Huskies led from the first point.

Prior to the first serve, the AMCATS recognized senior Jacqueline Clinton (Walpole, Mass.) for her contributions to the program over the past three seasons. Clinton, the lone member of the class of 2014, graduates as the winningest class in AMCAT history with 27 wins.

Anna Maria will await the seeding of the 2014 GNAC tournament, while Southern Maine will host a tri-match on Saturday featuring UMass-Dartmouth and St. Joseph's (Maine).
