Nighthawks Soar to 3-0 win against AMCAT Volleyball

PAXTON, Mass.—The Newbury College women's volleyball team had three players reach double-figures in kills as they posted a 3-0 win against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College in Thursday evening's non-conference match at the Fuller Center.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 4-3 on the season, while the win boosts the Nighthawks to 4-3.

Game scores were 25-22, 25-22, and 25-21.

The Nighthawks three offensive powerhouses were Lina Miranda (Brockton, Mass.), Maya Umoren (Quincy, Mass.), and Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.). Miranda finished with a match-high 12 kills, while Umoren recorded 11 and Banks finished with 10.

Setter Heather Parish (Tucson, Ariz.) dished out a match-high 35 assists for the Nighhawks. Defensively, the team was led by Meghan McDermott (Hampton, N.H.) with 13 digs, while Banks finished with three blocks.

Anna Maria was paced by freshman Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.), who totaled a team-best 10 kills in addition to a service ace and four digs. Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) recorded nine kills on the evening, while Jacqueline Clinton (Walpole, Mass.) finished with eight.

Setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) recorded 27 assists and seven digs, while libero Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) also finished with seven digs. Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) led the AMCATS at the net with two solo blocks.

Both teams recorded positive hitting percentages on the evening, as the Nighthawks totaled a .253 hitting percentage and the AMCATS finished with a .170 hitting percentage.

Anna Maria is idle until next Tuesday, September 16th, when it travels to Curry College for a 6:00 p.m. start. The Nighthawks are in action this Saturday as they take on Framingham State and the University of Southern Maine in home tri-match action.
