Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at St. Joseph's Tri-Match

STANDISH, Maine—The Anna Maria College volleyball team split a doubleheader with Lasell College and Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday on the Monks' campus.

The AMCATS opened the day with a 3-1 win against Lasell before falling 3-0 to the Monks. The AMCATS improve to 13-13 with today's results and conclude the GNAC regular season with a 4-7 record.

The AMCATS won the first set 25-19 on the strength of 12 team kills and a .211 hitting percentage. The Lasers rebounded for a 25-18 win in set two, but Anna Maria won to more close sets, 25-22, and 25-23, to take the 3-1 win.

Freshman Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.), senior Jacqueline Clinton (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) all recorded a team-best six kills in the win.

Junior Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) recorded a team-high 20 digs and also dished out 21 assists in the win. Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) chipped in with 19 digs, while Brianna LaRegina (Troy, N.Y.) added 10.

The Lasers saw a match-high seven kills from Michele Canestro. Meredith Eagan added six kills, while Heather Longley chipped in with five. Taylor Tiezzi recorded a match-high 21 digs and dished out 19 assists, while Cassandra Stout chipped in with 19.

Anna Maria posted an overall hitting percentage of .061, while the Lasers hit at a negative percentage.

Anna Maria fell in the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 29-27, but rallied for a 25-23 win in the third set before ultimately fallings 3-1 with a 25-10 loss in the fourth set.

Anna Maria was paced by Goulet and Clinton with seven kills apiece. Goulet added three blocks, while Clinton and Laregina chipped in with one. Jackson totaled 25 digs in the match, while Parker added 14 and Clinton added 10. Parker also dished out 23 assists.

The Monks were paced by Felicia Wachowiak with a match-high 24 kills and a .564 hitting percentage. Five different members of the St. Joseph's team reached double-figures in digs—Sam Wright (25), Abbie McPhee (22), Alli Hollander (12), Shadai Gosselin (12), and Cassie Leech (11).

The Monks totaled a .189 hitting percentage on the day, while the AMCATS finished the match hitting at .034.

Anna Maria will return to action on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. home non-conference game against the University of Southern Maine. The program will recognize Clinton, the team's lone senior, in a brief ceremony prior to the opening serve.
