Volleyball Sets Program Wins Record in 3-0 Victory against Albertus Magnus

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team broke their program record for wins in a season with today's 3-0 win against Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action from the Fuller Activities Center on Saturday morning.

The win was the 12th for the program and bested last season's 11 wins. The 2013 and 2014 seasons mark the only two seasons that the AMCATS have reached double-figures in the wins column since the program's inception in 1991.

The AMCATS now sit at 12-11 overall and 3-5 in GNAC play, while Albertus Magnus falls to 4-16 overall and 0-7 against league opponents. Today's game scores were 25-22, 25-12, 25-16.

Senior Jacqueline Clinton (Walpole, Mass.) led the AMCATS with a match-high eight kills, while junior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) and freshman Telliah Bursie (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) finished with seven and six kills, respectively. Junior setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) aided the offense with 25 assists.

Defensively, junior Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 18 digs. Freshman Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) chipped in with 11 digs, while Parker also reached double-figures with 10.

Sophomore Demi Carrero (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) aided the AMCATS with three service aces.

The Falcons were led by Caitlin Prete (Milford, Conn.) with six kills. Taylor DePalma (East Haven, Conn.) added five, while Leanna Velez (Waterbury, Conn.) dished out 13 assists.

Three different members of the Falcons team reached double-figures in digs, led by Alyssa Puccili (Milford, Conn.) with 16. Velez chipped in with 13, while Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) added 11.

The AMCATS dominated the first set, as they lead from the opening point and would not trail, but the Falcons kept the score close and never trailed by more than four points.

The Falcons but up a fight in the second game, as they forced four lead changes and tied the score six times. The Falcons' last lead of the second set was at 10-9. The AMCATS rebounded with a seven-point run on the serving strength of Foti to take a 17-10 lead and cruise to the 25-12 win.

In the third game, the Falcons took an early 3-0 lead before the AMCAST responded to tie the score at 4-4 on their way to a 25-16 win.

The AMCATS totaled .143 hitting percentage on the day on the strength of 32 kills in 105 attempts, making just 17 errors. The Falcons recorded 28 errors and just 22 kills on 115 attempts to post a negative hitting percentage.

Prior to today's match, head coach Samantha Shomo honored Parker with a brief ceremony. Last weekend, Parker became the first player in AMCAT history to reach 1,000 career assists.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday, October 22nd when they host league-leading Rivier in a 7:00 p.m. GNAC match. The Falcons will travel to New Rochelle on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
